Creative Tonies exist for exactly this: custom audio from people your child loves. Here is the whole process, both ways.
What you need
- A Toniebox and a Creative Tonie (the blank characters)
- The mytonies app or website
- A recording of your person reading
The DIY way
- Record the reading with a phone voice memo, one chapter per memo, phone propped close in a quiet room.
- Upload to the Creative Tonie in the mytonies app: pick your Tonie, add the audio files, arrange the order. A Creative Tonie holds about 90 minutes.
- Put the Tonie on the box. It syncs over Wi-Fi, and then the magic is entirely offline: child places the figure, Grandma reads.
The honest caveats are the same as every DIY recording: room echo, inconsistent takes, and original files scattered across someone's phone. The Toniebox speaker is kind to voices, but it can't fix a recording made from across the kitchen.

Does Fablewood work with the Toniebox?
Yes. Finished audiobooks download as standard audio files with chapters as separate tracks, sized to upload to a Creative Tonie through the mytonies app.
Does the grandparent need the app?
No. The grandparent only ever answers a telephone and reads. Uploading to the Tonie is the parent's ten-minute job, and we keep the files organized so it stays a ten-minute job.
What if the story is longer than one Tonie holds?
A Creative Tonie holds about 90 minutes. Longer collections split naturally across two figures, and the family library always holds everything regardless.
Is it really their voice?
Always. We remove phone-line noise and nothing else. Never AI, never a clone, never a correction of how someone naturally reads.
