The terms, in plain language
Last updated July 3, 2026
These are the terms of using Fablewood, written the way we’d explain them across a kitchen table. By starting a story line you’re agreeing to them.
What you’re buying
The Fablewood Story Line: a phone number your family’s readers can call for one year, unlimited stories, every grandchild, and a family library of the finished audiobooks. It costs $99 for the year and it never renews by itself. If you want another year, you’ll choose it on purpose.
The guarantee
If no recording ever happens on your line, you get a full refund, no questions and no deadline games. If Fablewood ever shuts its doors, we’ll give every family notice and time to download everything first.
What’s yours
The recordings and audiobooks belong to your family, full stop. You can download every original and every finished book at any time, whether or not you ever pay us again. You give us only the limited permission we need to store, process, and play them back for the people you share them with. We never use them for anything else (see Privacy).
What you promise us
- Readers record only what your family has the right to record: their own stories, family memories, and works in the public domain. A current best-seller read cover-to-cover is the author’s to sell, not ours to copy. Short bedtime passages for your own family are a different matter; when in doubt, ask us.
- The story line is for your family, shared with people you trust. No reselling access, no recording people without their knowledge (the line announces recording anyway).
- Keep your library link private. Anyone holding it can listen.
Invited families
Some lines begin with a personal invitation from us, occasionally complimentary. Everything here still applies, including “yours forever.” In exchange we may ask for honest feedback, and we’ll ask (never assume) before using any recording clip to show how Fablewood works.
The practical fine print
- Phone networks, and services built on them, sometimes hiccup. We keep raw recordings from the moment they reach us so nothing that was read is lost, but we can’t promise the line is reachable every minute of every day.
- If something goes wrong, our responsibility is capped at what you paid us in the past year. We’re a small bindery, not an insurer.
- We can close a line that’s being abused (fraud, harassment, recording people who didn’t agree). We’ll say why, and the family still gets its downloads.
- These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.
