The complete guide

Everything you can put on a Creative Tonie.

The blank Tonie is the best thing about the Toniebox and the least explained. What it is, how to load it, and 90 minutes' worth of ideas.

What a Creative Tonie is

One of the blank characters in the Tonies lineup: same magnetic figure, but it holds about 90 minutes of whatever you choose, loaded through the mytonies app, played offline like any other Tonie.

Store-bought Tonies play what a studio recorded. The blank one plays your people.

How to add music and audio

  1. 1Open the mytonies app (or my.tonies.com) and sign in.
  2. 2Pick your Creative Tonie; each blank figure has its own playlist.
  3. 3Add audio: upload files, or record straight into the app.
  4. 4Drag tracks into order; the box plays top to bottom.
  5. 5Set the Tonie on the box on Wi-Fi to sync. After that, fully offline.

The one hard rule: it has to be audio you actually have; the app can't pull from Spotify. Conveniently, recordings of people who love your kid are the thing no streaming service has.

Six ideas for filling those 90 minutes

  • A grandparent reading

The classic use, and the best one. One track per chapter.

  • Your bedtime playlist

The exact songs you sing, in the canonical order, for nights you're away.

  • Messages for mornings

"Good morning, first day of school" from Dad on a work trip beats any alarm.

  • The family tour

Thirty seconds each from aunts, uncles, cousins, and the dog (assisted).

  • The kid themselves

Record them retelling a story at four; play it at seven. Instant treasure.

  • Told-from-memory stories

The time Grandpa's canoe sank. Nobody else on earth has the recording.

The recording is the hard part

Every idea above needs the same raw material: a good recording of a person your child loves. Uploading takes ten minutes; getting Grandma recorded is where these projects stall for months. (DIY tips: recording a grandparent, catches included.)

She answers the phone and reads; the sound is cleaned up; it becomes a keepsake audiobook.

The effortless way is a story line: with Fablewood the reader just answers a phone call and reads, and the finished audiobook arrives with chapters as separate tracks that upload neatly to a Creative Tonie. The originals stay yours forever, so the voice outlives any one player. Full walkthrough: a grandparent's voice on the Toniebox.

The easiest version of all of this

A loved one answers the phone and reads. Fablewood turns the call into a finished keepsake audiobook in your family's private library, ready for bedtime, the car, and every player below.

Questions, answered plainly

How many minutes does a Creative Tonie hold?

About 90 minutes of audio, split across as many tracks as you like. That's roughly a week of bedtimes, or one very committed dinosaur encyclopedia.

Can I put Spotify or streaming music on a Creative Tonie?

No. The mytonies app uploads audio files you actually have, or audio you record in the app; it can't pull from streaming services. Family recordings and standard audio files you own work; DRM-protected purchases won't.

Does the Toniebox need Wi-Fi to play a Creative Tonie?

Only to sync new audio. Once the Tonie has synced, playback is fully offline: the child puts the figure on the box and it plays, in the car, at the cabin, anywhere.

How do I get a grandparent's voice onto a Creative Tonie if they can't record themselves?

That's what Fablewood's story line is for: they answer a regular phone call and read, and you get a finished audiobook with chapters as separate tracks, ready to upload to the Tonie in minutes. The grandparent never touches an app.
